June 7,  2005 - Farmington, NY - Global Point Technology, Inc., supplier of engineered components, subassemblies and contact manufacturing services from Asia, today announced its freight consolidation and inventory management services, including vendor-managed inventory (VMI), for North American buyers of engineered components and subassemblies from China.

Global Point has provided Asian sourcing and contract manufacturing services to OEMs since 1984. It is now offering its expertise to companies who buy or plan to buy directly from Chinese manufacturers.

“North American companies understand the value of VMI, but find that it’s extremely difficult to apply to their suppliers in China,” said James Carboni, senior VP at Global Point. “Chinese vendors are not ready to take ownership of the inventory, and the costs of shipping ‘just in time’ in small quantities from China can easily erase any financial benefit of VMI. With our resources in China, we can step in to resolve these issues and a host of others.”

Global Point offers its freight consolidation and inventory management services either under a “fee for services” arrangement or under a more traditional reseller approach.

• Under a fee for services arrangement, the North American customer buys directly from its Chinese supplier, and Global Point handles all of the inventory management issues.

• In the traditional reseller model, Global Point buys, imports, stocks and resells inventory based on its customers’ forecasts and release schedules.

With either approach, Global Point offers the following benefits:

• Freight consolidation – Global Point consolidates shipments from multiple customers. Each customer can import the exact quantity of inventory they need, without paying a premium for less-than-container load shipments. Customers can save up to 30% on freight costs and rely on Global Point to ensure that critical delivery schedules are maintained.

• Just-in-time releases – Global Point maintains warehouse facilities in North America and can release parts from the warehouse to meet a weekly manufacturing schedule, or release parts from stock with as little as 24-hour notice.

• Repackaging for manufacturing – parts are brought into the stateside warehouse in economical load quantities and repackaged into convenient containers and quantities for the end user. For example, a specific number of parts may be loaded into tubs as required for a particular manufacturing line.

• Reporting – Global Point provides constant monitoring and reporting including in-transit information, deliveries, status of shipments and more. Up-to-date information lets buyers avoid surprises that can result in plant down-time or expediting costs.
